Bay to Lake Relay Race

What is it?

Bay to Lake is an annual, not-for-profit, competitive 60 mile (100km) relay race.

When and where?

Aquatic Park Bleachers, San Francisco at 7AM on Saturday, September 21st, the race usually ends around 4PM, then we host a BBQ/afterparty at the finish line.

How many people are on a team?

Minimum six, maximum eight athletes on your team. You can also have at most two support members on your team as support/designated drivers if you'd like.

Can I sign up an entire team?

Yes, If you already have a full team of 6 to 8 athletes, please send me an email (baytolake@hazybridge.com) with

  1. Names of all your teammates
  2. Who is the team captain
  3. Preferred team color
  4. Preferred team animal emoji
Everyone still has to fill out the form individually because of the liability waiver though.

How far do I have to run?

Every athlete runs approximately 8-10 miles for their team over the entire day. However, your distance is split up into 2-3 mile segments with time to rest in between.

Does our team have to follow the provided route?

Yes, as long as it is safe to do so. If there is any hazard or obstacle preventing you from following the route, use your best judgement to arrive at the next checkpoint safely.

How does it work?

  1. Before the race, participants are organized into teams. Each team will have a captain who will act as the main point of contact.
    1. During the race
      1. At the start of the race, you will send off your first runner from the starting point.
      2. The rest of the team will drive to the first checkpoint.
      3. Once the runner reaches the first checkpoint, you will send off the next runner.
      4. You continue to leapfrog like this until the finish line.
    2. After the race
      1. You can drive back home.
      2. There is an option to stay overnight.
